From television to video games, texting to the Internet – in a world that is increasingly filled with indoor entertainment options, how do we foster a conservation ethic among members of the next generation? Together with our clients Michael Morris and Stacie Talbert from the City of Corpus Christi, RVi Vice President and Director of Park Design Barbara Austin explored this topic in an educational session at the recent National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Congress and Exposition. In the panel discussion, the group explained how multiple agencies – at the city, state, and national level – came together to create a compelling programmatic plan for the Oso Bay Nature Preserve and Learning Center. The park is an ambitious project that seeks to strengthen children’s emotional connection with nature through education, discovery, and play. The first phase of the project was recently completed, and construction on Phase 2 will begin soon.
