Weaving a Hill Country Community Together
Belterra is a 1,600–acre master planned community located just outside of Austin near Dripping Springs. The community was designed to promote a casual low-density residential lifestyle in unspoiled Texas Hill Country surroundings. RVi has been working at Belterra since its inception – providing a wide range of services including master planning, entitlement assistance, landscape architecture design, parks and open space design, and transportation aesthetics.
Belterra Boulevard provides the thread that ties this community together and utilizes indigenous materials such as stacked limestone, “rustic” steel signage, and native plant materials to underscore the property’s ranching heritage. Low maintenance was also a principal consideration in the roadway’s design. Bridges include stone arches, wood railings, and special paving to make creek crossings more interesting for drivers. Roadway alignment was strongly influenced by topography and the preservation of numerous trees, thus maintaining the rural ranch character of the land.
One of the key planning goals for this community was to connect each residential neighborhood with trails. These trails cross the main collector road via pedestrian underpasses, thereby reducing pedestrian/vehicle encounters and providing critical linkages throughout the community.
