Life Wide Open: A Community Defined by Open Space
The picturesque and successful Belterra community represents the breadth of RVi’s expertise in community planning and design – from the initial master plan through full build out. With over 600 acres of dedicated green space, the community has earned the right to its mantra, “Life Wide Open.”
In the initial stages of the project, RVi worked with the developer to create a long-range master plan for the community, including facilitation of the development agreement and entitlement process with the City of Austin. One of the key planning goals for this community was to connect each residential neighborhood with trails. These trails cross the main collector road via pedestrian underpasses, thereby reducing pedestrian/vehicle encounters and providing critical linkages throughout the community.
Since completing the master plan, RVi has continued to work on multiple subsequent projects at Belterra, including landscape architecture design for streetscapes, a welcome center, recreation center, parks, trails, and much more. Belterra Parkway, the main collector road throughout the community, was designed with careful attention to topography and the preservation of existing trees – design choices that celebrate the rural ranch character of the land and provide a sense of arrival and relief from the bustling city. The community Recreation Center is situated on 9.3 acres and includes a 5.300 s.f. building, a resort-style pool, and other amenities such as tennis and basketball courts, a playscape, volleyball court, and sports fields.
