Brazos Park East

Redefining a Community Asset

For almost a century, the City of Waco has been developing a unique park system along the shores of the Brazos River. One key part of this system is the 35–acre Brazos Park East. This park has become the Waco park system’s epicenter for large events, boat races and horseshoe tournaments. As the uses of the park have expanded, the need for redesign and redefinition of the park has become more and more apparent. RVi was called in to analyze the community’s use of the park and to provide landscape architecture and park design services in order to give the park more structure and weight in the overall Waco park system. The redesign included facilitating stakeholder input, improving the bulkhead, seating and concert venue, creating entry drives, parking, circulation, boat ramps, an overlook of the Brazos River, and pedestrian circulation with connection to the overall Waco trail system.
