Cane Island blends modern master-planned living with the character and local heritage of Katy, Texas. RVi’s design weaves parks, lakes, trails, and community amenities into a unified environment that strengthens neighborhood identity and celebrates outdoor living for families of all ages.
GOALS
RVi set out to create a master-planned community that feels both connected and expressive of Katy’s history. Through thematic design, landscape architecture, open space planning, and conceptual amenity programming, the team aimed to integrate parks, lakes, trails, and gathering spaces into a cohesive framework. The goal was to shape a community where residents can explore, play, and connect through meaningful outdoor experiences rooted in local heritage.
OUTCOMES
Cane Island has emerged as a vibrant community where outdoor living and local storytelling shape everyday experiences. RVi’s planning and design approach strengthens neighborhood identity by weaving Katy’s heritage—from ranching and rice farming to rail and energy—into parks, trails, and amenity spaces throughout the development. These elements create a sense of place that feels authentic, memorable, and deeply rooted in the region’s cultural history.
The extensive open-space network, including lakes, pocket parks, and interconnected trails, encourages residents to spend more time outdoors and engage with their surroundings. Families can gather at the recreation center, wander along the lakes, or enjoy themed play environments that inspire exploration and multigenerational activity. This integrated system of parks and public spaces helps build community, strengthen social connections, and support healthy, active lifestyles.
RVi’s work also enhances the development’s long-term livability through thoughtful grading, landscape strategies, and amenity placement. Streets, trails, and open spaces are calibrated to create comfort, visual cohesion, and intuitive circulation across the 1,500+ acre property. As new phases expand the community with schools, parks, and additional trails, Cane Island continues to grow into a holistic environment that supports families at every stage of life.
