Catchlight Crossings
A visionary mixed-income community bringing opportunity, connection, and essential services to Orlando’s tourism corridor.
Catchlight Crossings transforms a high-profile site near the Orange County Convention Center into a vibrant mixed-income community. Blending affordable housing, essential services, education, mobility, and public spaces, RVi’s design helps create an inclusive neighborhood that expands opportunity and supports working families in Orlando’s tourism corridor.
GOALS
RVi set out to shape a mixed-use and multi-family development that meets the demand for new affordable, workforce, and market-rate housing in Greater Orlando. By combining thoughtful landscape architecture, streetscape design, and park and open space planning, the team aimed to create a walkable environment anchored by high-impact amenities, including on-site tuition-free preschool, on-site medical offices, mobility hubs, community gardens, and public gathering spaces. The goal was to foster community, opportunity, and long-term stability for families at a transformative scale.
OUTCOMES
Catchlight Crossings represents a profound shift in how mixed-income communities can support the people who power Orlando’s tourism corridor. Designed across 20 acres, the development will deliver 1,000 affordable, workforce, and market-rate homes paired with everyday essentials all within walking distance.
RVi’s planning and landscape architecture help bring this vision to life through a connected network of parks, plazas, walking paths, and activated streetscapes. These outdoor spaces give residents places to gather, rest, play, and build relationships, while fostering a sense of belonging within a community intentionally designed to support working families. The central urban plaza and event space create a shared heart for the neighborhood, encouraging engagement and reinforcing safety and community pride.
By integrating a tuition-free preschool, on-site medical services, and mobility hubs, Catchlight Crossings significantly reduces barriers faced by residents who often juggle long commutes and limited access to essential services. This level of integration supports upward mobility and improves day-to-day quality of life, particularly for families employed in nearby hospitality and tourism roles.
RVi’s wayfinding, signage, and branding design further elevate navigation and identity throughout the community. Inspired by geometric patterns in nature, the visual language helps unify the experience while contributing to a welcoming, cohesive character.
Collectively, these outcomes demonstrate how thoughtful design can shape more equitable, resilient neighborhoods. Catchlight Crossings sets a new standard for mixed-income living in Central Florida by expanding opportunity, reducing household strain, and creating a community where residents of all ages can thrive.
