The Village of Downers Grove is developing a new Civic Center, including Village Hall and Police Department, adjacent to the Metra Station and downtown. Designed as a community gathering place, the project features a pedestrian walk connecting neighborhoods, a civic plaza honoring civil rights and founder Israel Blackburn, and a fully native landscape. The design balances sustainability with functionality, using only native plantings to create a vibrant, low-maintenance public space that serves residents, commuters, and visitors. An animated site presentation helped communicate the vision to the community, illustrating how the Civic Center integrates with the surrounding neighborhoods and becomes a hub for civic life.
