Esplanade at Red Rocks

Located in Summerlin West at the edge of Red Rock Canyon, Esplanade at Red Rock transforms over 88 acres of desert terrain into a resort-inspired residential community that celebrates the natural character of Southern Nevada. Guided by the site’s dramatic topography, expansive views, and connection to the regional trail network, RVi developed a planning and landscape architecture framework that integrates recreation, wellness, and social experiences within a distinct Mojave Desert setting.

Working closely with the Taylor Morrison Esplanade Resort Experiences  and a multidisciplinary project team, RVi helped shape the first Southwestern expression of the Esplanade brand, leveraging challenging grade changes and desert conditions to create memorable community spaces, hospitality-inspired amenities, and a landscape identity rooted in the surrounding Red Rock environment.

GOALS

Esplanade at Red Rock presented RVi with the opportunity to translate an established lifestyle brand into a distinctly Southwestern setting while responding to the unique opportunities and constraints of the Mojave Desert landscape. Working across master planning, site planning, and landscape architecture, the team sought to create a cohesive community experience that leveraged the site’s dramatic topography, expansive Red Rock Canyon views, and direct connections to the Summerlin trail network.

The project required balancing complex grading and drainage challenges with placemaking objectives, integrating hospitality-inspired amenities within a residential framework, and developing a landscape character that reflected the surrounding desert environment while supporting long-term water conservation goals. Equally important was coordinating design efforts across a large, geographically dispersed team of stakeholders, consultants, and client representatives to align project vision, design priorities, and implementation strategies throughout the planning and construction process.

OUTCOMES

RVi’s planning and landscape architecture efforts established a framework for a resort-inspired community that embraces the character of the Las Vegas Valley while creating a distinctive identity for the Esplanade brand. Through thoughtful site planning and grading strategies, the team transformed challenging terrain into opportunities for enhanced views, memorable open spaces, and a more dynamic resident experience.

The resulting community integrates nearly 400 homes with a network of recreational amenities, trails, gathering spaces, and hospitality-inspired destinations centered around a 10,000-square-foot amenity complex. Landscape design draws from the colors, textures, and ecological character of the Mojave Desert through drought-tolerant planting palettes, native and adapted species, natural stone materials, and outdoor environments that encourage wellness, recreation, and social engagement.

Beyond the physical design, RVi’s role as a coordinating partner helped navigate complex project dynamics, maintaining momentum through evolving schedules and stakeholder input while delivering a cohesive vision that positions Esplanade at Red Rock as a new model for resort-style living in Southern Nevada.
