Interfaith Garden of Prayer
A Welcoming Space for Personal Reflection
Our team was commissioned by Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas to evaluate four potential sites within the Gaston Avenue campus for the construction of a new interfaith Garden of Prayer. After almost a year of program sessions and meetings by a volunteer steering committee of doctors, hospital administrators, staff, and community religious leaders, a site in the heart of the campus was selected on Junius Street in front of the Roberts Hospital Entrance. The garden features a prayer path in the form of a classical labyrinth that begins outside the sunken, enclosed space walled with masonry. Two water walls and tiered fountain sprays provide white noise to mask the noise from vehicular traffic on Junius Street. Prayerful quotations and thoughts are inscribed throughout the garden, and perimeter bench seating is provided for patrons.
