ACU Jacob’s Dream

Creating Space for Art

This project involved working with sculptor Jack Maxwell to create a site on the ACU campus for the location of a new sculpture piece entitled Jacob’s Dream. The piece is a work in both bronze and limestone and is located on the lawn southeast of the Onstead-Packer Biblical Studies Building and northeast of the Mabee Business Building. The 7,000 pound metal sculpture was crafted by Jack Maxwell, artist and chair of the Department of Art and Design at ACU. Jack, his wife, and students spent countless hours developing the piece. The 34 ft. high sculpture and base is placed within a space bordered by a low limestone seatwall, which serves to define the area around the piece and creates spaces for both quiet solitude as well as small outdoor classrooms. A small water spill and pool offer a quiet spot for prayer and meditation and also serve as an area for baptisms.
