Meridiana

Blending rural with urban, education with outdoor living, and extensive parks and amenities linked through a greenbelt system, Meridiana is a uniquely innovative master-planned community.

GOALS

In designing the largest master-planned community in Brazoria County, Texas, RVi worked to balance resort-style amenities and outdoor recreation with an emphasis on educational opportunities. Throughout the community, the state’s Texas Essential Knowledge Standards (TEKS) curriculum established a guiding thread for purposeful amenities, while an inspired greenbelt system served to link villages, parks, schools, and community centers to the environment and each other.

OUTCOMES

Located just south of the burgeoning Houston suburb of Pearland, Texas, Meridiana has become an award-winning community consistently ranking in national top-50 lists. With retail developments along the western border, and Iowa Colony Regional Park to the East, Meridiana offers a lifestyle where curiosity is encouraged and community comes naturally.
The Chocolate Bayou traversing the site became a dual-purpose fixture of the design. RVi crafted an extensive greenbelt system along the bayou to provide stormwater management while also serving as the community’s main amenity. Along the greenbelt, wildlife viewing areas with interpretive signage are both recreational and educational, offering living classrooms for residents to interact with their environment. Two on-site elementary schools, a junior high, and an early childhood education center provide a formal education setting for young and growing families, complementing natural discovery through science-themed playgrounds and TEKS-inspired learning labs throughout the community.

Sprawling parks and engaging community centers encourage connection and foster a distinct sense of place, with everything easily accessible through trails along the unifying greenbelt. From pools and splash pads, to a waterpark, café, amphitheater, fitness center, and more, there is no shortage of amenities and educational opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy.
