Mueller
An Urban Village in the Heart of Austin
Mueller is an urban mixed-use community that has emerged as the result of the redevelopment of the abandoned Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. As infill projects go, Mueller is unparalleled in Central Texas. Envisioned as a mixed-use urban village, Mueller is home to nearly 10,000 people as well as major medical employers like Dell Children’s Hospital, The University of Texas at Austin’s Dell Pediatric Research Institute, Seton Headquarters, and the Ronald McDonald House. In 2016, Mueller became the largest community in the world to achieve a LEED for Neighborhood Development Gold Certification, and the first community in Central Texas to earn this distinction.
RVi has played a vital role at Mueller, serving as the local landscape architect for the project. In the earliest stages of the community, RVi assisted with the development of the Mueller Design Book and the Planned Unit Development Ordinance. RVi has continued to accompany the project through the creation of Residential and Commercial Landscape Design Guidelines and has worked to design and closely coordinate the community’s streetscapes with various consultants and the City of Austin. RVi also developed the Parks and Open Space Plan, designing four individual parks and a six-mile trail system winding through the community.
