Whole Foods Montrose

New Grocery Demonstrates Commitment to Sustainability

Whole Foods has long been a leader in sustainability, and the new Montrose location continues the green grocer’s commitment to the environment. The store’s landscape design includes an outdoor dining area and minimizes the use of turf with native and adapted plants. Rainwater serves as the primary source for irrigation to help decrease water usage throughout the site. Flowing plant beds surround the perimeter with the landscape integrated into the design of the building through trellises and vines creating “green walls.” Trees planted in the parking lot shade the pavement and work to reduce the urban heat island effect. The landscape plan complies with the City of Houston landscape ordinance in an exceptional way – not just meeting minimum guidelines but creating unique experiences that bring customers closer to nature.
